Architectural design for streetfront broadcast studio multi-media venue

Located in the heart of Boston University’s Commonwealth Avenue campus, CambridgeSeven’s dynamic and transparent design of CitySpace expands the presence of WBUR, Boston’s NPR radio station, and provides an essential platform for the station to augment its listeners ability to enjoy content from on-air to on-line and now, in-person. CitySpace is a state-of-the-art venue designed to house a multi-media, multi-purpose performance space and broadcast studio, expanding WBUR’s existing facilities, as well as its reach and visibility. CitySpace will include flexible seating for up to 240 guests, cutting-edge audio and robotic HD video technology, robotically controlled theatrical lighting, a hydraulic stage and a 9 ft x 16 ft LED video presentation wall. CambridgeSeven’s high-performance acoustical design provides for proper sound control even while located directly along a busy sidewalk. CitySpace’s expansive glass façade offers a direct view and connection into the dynamic media and broadcast activities within, while giving form to the station’s commitment to innovation, reinvention and civic engagement.
